Apple-Cider-Moscow-Mule-on-kitchen-table

Sometimes we get so focused on pumpkins that we forget about another star of autumn: apples. My kids and I love to go apple picking near the Georgia mountains each year. Being in that mountain air is good for the soul. We march throughout the orchards for hours picking apples and then do all sorts of fun activities, like shooting apple cannons, watching pig races, riding cow trains and more. But I’m there for the treats.

Before we leave, I have to have apple cider slushies, apple hand pies and apple cider donuts. Apples, apples and more apples. The cider is so stinkin good. I grab two gallons - one for the fridge that we consume pretty quickly, then one for the freezer so I can have some cider goodness much later.

Apple cider is good on its own (hot or cold) but it adds an extra something special to cocktails. I like it with bourbon, in margaritas and in one of my favorite year-round drinks, a Moscow mule.

Cocktails don’t get much simpler than Moscow mules. It’s vodka, ginger beer and lime juice. That’s it. But add apple cider to it and that’s just good living.

You’ll Need:
Let’s Make Them
  1. Add ice to your glass or mug
  2. Add lime juice, apple cider and vodka
  3. Top with ginger beer
  4. Stir to mix
  5. Top with an apple slice
  6. Enjoy
